The Torrance, CA band’s third LP will be released on March 25th and follows a national tour with Touché Amoré and mewithoutYou, which kicks off Thursday night (2/6) in Denver, CO. Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only was engineered and mixed by Ben Brodin (Bright Eyes, Pete Yorn), and produced by Seahaven’s Kyle Soto at Mike Mogis’ ARC recording studio in Omaha, NE. The album captures the dreamy, sprawling, airy southern California mood embodied by the band’s surroundings. Warm, beach-y reverb blankets equally contemplative and carefree sounding pop that ebbs and flows with rising strings and deft percussion, making for Seahaven’s most interesting and engaging songs yet.
Since forming in 2009, Seahaven have cultivated a growing fanbase that has closely followed and enthusiastically supported their every release and tour. The uninitiated would likely find themselves surprised upon discovering the depth of social media excitement that greeted the streaming debut of the new album’s first single, “Silhouette (Latin Skin)”, on The Onion A/V Club a little over a month ago. With Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only, Seahaven refine the subtle combination of upper midwestern indie rock aesthetic and so-cal punk and post-punk heritage that has endeared itself to so many over the past half decade. Those qualities are brought to life like never before by the uplifting natural production and orchestral instrumentation found on the album.
