Introducing…My Goodness
Need an infusion of new music to shake up your playlist? Well, we’d like to introduce you an emerging band called My Goodness. They’re a Seattle based duo ~ Joel Schneider (guitar/vocals) and Andy Lum (drums) ~ who’ll be releasing a new album later this summer. The band will also be embarking on their first national tour (in support of Augustines) in February/March, with Cody Votolato (The Blood Brothers, Jaguar Love) joining them on bass. These guys are straight up, dirty blues rock-n-roll (just the way we like it!) with fuzzing guitars that riffs that jam so hard. They’ve already built a strong following over the last few years throughout the Pacific Northwest, and we’re pretty damn sure it’s only a matter of weeks until the rest of the country catches on to their great sound.
More about My Goodness…
Seattle duo My Goodness know all about musical chemistry. They keep their blues-infused bluster simple. Economical. They pare it back to the bare bones ~ guitars and drums with vocals cutting through the middle. With My Goodness, less is more ~ in the best possible sense of the word. It’s about synchronicity and simplicity. It’s about liberation too ~ and the pure idea of having fun, just plugging in and letting rip. It’s about amplified, electrified music. Stroppy, wired and armed with tunes a-plenty. In other words, just as it should be.
My Goodness’ connection to the Seattle music they grew up on is delightfully obvious in their sound. Bands from Nirvana and Soundgrarden to bands from the early 00s Seattle like Botch, Blood Brothers, Murder City Devils and Horkonen were on heavy rotation for Joel Schneider and Andy Lum throughout their formative years. Dig deeper still and you find them tapping into a rich vein of blues, both old and new ~ from Muddy Waters through Junior Kimbrough and RL Burnside to the musical sass of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. And going with the adage that variety is the spice of life (and music), the energy, intensity and attitude of hardcore gets mixed in with the groove of the blues, too. Ultimately, it all comes together as true rock, though ~ big, throbbing, and addictive.
Here’s just a sample of what the press is saying:
“Spin the volume knob on this one, ’cause ‘quiet’ is only for those who can’t handle this kind of ass-kicking” ~ Crave Online
“…a stripped-down, fuzz-toned racket that harkens back to screaming Seattle bands of the 1960’s like The Sonics and The Wailers” ~ Spin Magazine
