Front Row Pics: Ministry & The SixxiS @ The Palladium in Worcester, MA

As we promised with our signature FB teaser shots, here are some more photos from Ministry’s From Beer To EternaTour stop in Worcester ~ Come on, Ministry, their final tour, and The SixxiS? There was no way FlashWounds was going to miss a second of the show and not share the entire evening with you. And what an evening it was…Worcester area concert-goers (unfortunately, because they missed an historical event), stayed true to form, but the true fans still showed up in surprisingly large numbers to support both bands.

To kick things off, The SixxiS played a brilliant set that instantly (but not surprisingly ~ check out our advance story on the band) won me over. Their seamless blend of prog rock and metal was just the perfect start to a great evening of music. The only negative for me was after the set when I made a beeline for the merch table to grab a copy of their CD Hollow Shrine (get yours now on iTunes) and maybe a Tshirt, only to discover that there were no SixxiS goodies available at all. Luckily, there’s still the Internet for that sort of thing. But when a dearth of Tshirts is the ONLY problem with a band, well, that’s saying a lot (and P.S., Vladdy himself ~ Thank you, Vladdy!” ~ is actually trying to track down a T or two for us, bless his heart!).

Soon afterward, Ministry ~ with Uncle Al in rare form ~ took the stage by storm and played the first half of their latest album From Beer To Eternity (in order, no less) before delving into their classic material, including “N.W.O.” and “So What.” There was a little something in there for everyone, and it was clear the band had created the show as their thank you to the fans on this farewell tour. Driving home after the show, I realized that I hadn’t seen this kind of old-school “full set from one great opening band followed by a giant set from the headliner” in years, given that the trend these days is to book three, four or even more bands to play short opening sets, often leaving barely an hour of stage time for the headliner (and what we refer to as the secondary headliner) to show their stuff. Both formats have their pros and cons, of course; but I have to say that Ministry + The SixxiS was an inspired combo that didn’t need anything or anyone else in the mix, and for me that’s just what the doctor ordered.
