The Decemberists Will Perform Castaways And Cutouts in Its Entirety and More at Their First Headline Concert in Nearly Three Years

On Friday, May 30, The Decemberists will present “V is for Victory,” a benefit concert for Victory Academy, at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, OR. In their first headline concert appearance since August 2011, The Decemberists will perform their 2002 full-length debut, Castaways and Cutouts, in its entirety plus a variety of other sentimental favorites. Special guest Sallie Ford will open the show, which will begin at 8:00 PM. “Victory Academy is an important place, a positive educational environment for kids on the autism spectrum,” said Colin Meloy, frontman and songwriter for the Portland-based band. “In a public school system that is constantly failing its most vulnerable charges, we need more and better schools catering to the needs of autistic children. Victory is such a place. The Decemberists are proud and excited to do their part in raising money for their capital campaign to build a new school building.” Tickets for “V is for Victory” will go on sale to the general public this Friday, March 7, at 12 NOON PST at cascadetickets.com. VIP packages will also be available, which include early entrance to the show, a pre-show reception with The Decemberists (with light food and drink served), and a special limited-edition poster signed by the band. Proceeds will help fund construction of Victory Academy’s new 18,000 square foot school, which will be located on a four-acre horse farm near Wilsonville, OR. Designed by Opsis Architecture, the new site will meet Living Building Challenge Petal Certification standards and be made with 100% non-toxic materials. The project will enable Victory Academy to move from a K-8 to a K-12 model, giving Oregon its first-ever K-12 accredited school for children affected by autism. The Decemberists ~ Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and John Moen ~ have released six full-length albums and are about to begin work on a seventh. 2011’s The King Is Dead debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and contained the single “Down By The Water,” which received two GRAMMY® nominations.
