Shadows Fall ~ Do Upcoming Live Dates Including Big Kahuna Festival Mean the Band Is Back for Good?
Massachusetts’ Shadows Fall (Brian Fair, Matt Bachand , Jon Donais, Paul Romanko, Jason Bittner), who have been on indefinite hiatus for much longer than their fans would like, have announced that they’ll be returning to the stage for the Big Kahuna Festival on August 22 in Providence, RI, also playing a show the day prior in Clifton Park, NY and the day after in Lowell, MA.
The announcement led to a flurry of speculation as to whether these shows were a prelude to the band heading back into the studio to record new music, and this message posted by SF on Facebook further fueled the conjecture that they were hard at work on new material:
“We are back!!!!! Saturday, August 22 SHADOWS FALL will be headlining The Big Kahuna festival at Fete music hall in Providence, RI. Also appearing will be End Time Illusion, Anaria, Carnivora, Oath, and many others on 3 stages. We may add a few more shows around this date and these could possibly, be the only Shadows Fall dates of the year. If you are a promoter and are interested in booking Shadows fall in this timeframe, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.”
Then came the following statement, also posted by the band on their page:
“lots of people seemed to care that we posted a pic yesterday of 4 out of 5 of us in the same room together………thank you for that………we really appreciate it and know that people do still care, we do too, it’s just sometimes life does get in the way………..that being said……we ARE jamming to get ready for these few “un-hiatus” shows………but that is it at this current moment……….we do have some thoughts on some new music as well, but we need to see where everyone’s lives and other band schedules will be before we move forward…….I’m definitely saying right now it is not out of the question for us to possibly start working on some new music, but as of right now we are only playing a few shows while we all can do it, and then we will see what happens in the near future………..so a giant THANK YOU to anyone who still cares, and these upcoming US shows will be special, with a very cool “career retrospective” set list, don’t miss them!”
Since releasing their last album, 2012’s Fire From The Sky, which sold around 10,000 copies in the US in its first week of release (on Razor & Tie) to debut at #38 on Billboard’s 200 chart, several of the guys have been involved in other projects: drummer Jason Bittner (Who said about what we can expect from their upcoming dates: “This set is going to be killer and encompass everything we have done in the last 15 years or so!!”) toured with Flotsam and Jetsam, guitarist Jon Donais has been busy playing with Anthrax, and guitarist Matt Bachand joined Act of Defiance.
So only time will tell what the three booked shows and the messages that piqued so many people’s interest and launched a host of rumors mean for Shadows Fall…
