Stockholm’s Opeth ~ Mikael Åkerfeldt (vox, guitars), Martin Mendez (bass), Martin Axenrot (drums), Fredrik Åkesson (guitars), Joakim Svalberg (keys) ~ have not only been performing outstanding sets for both longtime and new fans while on road as part of the Communion of Sirens tour, they’ve also been racking up awards, nominations, honors, and coveted spots playing some the world’s most killer festivals:

6Metal Hammer has nominated Pale Communion for album of the year in their readers’ poll.

The band has been nominated for a Swedish Grammy [again!] for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album.

Mikael has also been nominated individually for Best Producer; the award show will be held in Stockholm on February 25th.

CaptureOpeth has just announced that they’ll be playing Wacken Open Air fest [again!]; W.O.A 2015 is held between July 30th and August 1st and is already sold out!

MusicRadar just named Martin as their choice for Number One prog drummer.

Already a major international success due to their albums and their intense, riveting live performances, the band is being showering with even more kudos and opportunities, so FlashWounds considers itself very lucky to have caught them rocking the stage and exchanging incredible energy with the crowd at the Gas Monkey Live in Dallas, TX on December 14 … and of course we’re bringing you photos ~ so enjoy!

Think you know your Opeth? Then here’s a trivia question for you:  Who came up with the band’s name, where did it originally come from, and what does it mean?

Very special thanks to C. Lindberg…
