Meet Casey McQuillen
OK, so this artist’s music is certainly a bit of a departure from our norm, but Casey (whom you might remember from “American Idol Season 13”) taught herself to play guitar at age 13, released her first album, Enough, to iTunes January 1st, 2010 and her album Passenger Seat to iTunes on May 14, 2011. On the merits of those two albums, her public appearances, and the videos she’s been posting on YouTube for the past five years, this now 21 year old singer/songwriter from Boston, MA, currently a student at Berklee College of Music, has developed quite a varied fan base and is beginning to book shows that may just broaden it even more.
We admire that Casey always puts her entire self into any show or appearance she does, obviously appreciates every single fan she has and is grateful for the opportunities that had been given to her ~ but doesn’t wait for fame to simply come a-knockin'; she works hard to continuously mature her sound, values the quality of her music over any recognition that might come from it, and takes her studies at Berklee very seriously.
So although you may not be into pop (and make no mistake, Casey, whose repertoire includes both covers and original material, is not your run-of-the-mill “pop tart,” she is a musician who specifically chose the genre as the best vehicle by which to share her talents and emotions), you have to admit that there’s something to be said for a musician who from a very young age has been dedicated, disciplined, and committed to constantly learning and improving, all while enjoying the music she is currently creating and the smiles it puts on her fans’ faces.
