Back to the Basement with 3 Doors Down

3Doors14Never one to miss out on a chance to check out a great show, I was able to catch 3 Doors Down in Chicago during the most recent leg of their “Songs from the Basement” tour which we first told you about back in April.

Shows can’t get much more stripped down than this, nothing but a few stools, the band, and a stage flanked by couches filled with eager fans. As soon as the fans are seated, the band walks out from behind, Brad Arnold (singer) reaches up, pulls the string on a light bulb (think old school basement light), and it’s time to rock. It’s all very simple, and it all works.

As I said it last year when I reviewed the band’s tour with Daughtry, “They don’t need anything but their instruments and a crowd…,” and it was no different this time ‘round at House of Blues in Chicago. The show may be a little mellow for some people’s taste because it’s acoustic, but that’s exactly what an acoustic show usually is. And don’t mistake mellow for dull or lacking energy or passion ~ the band certainly doesn’t. 3DD puts their heart and soul into playing their hits, some rarely heard tracks, and even a couple of new songs, feeding off the energy of the crowd.

3 Doors remains one of the most consistent live bands touring and if you have the opportunity to see one of their more intimate shows, I’d suggest you go.

Check out their website for tour dates and more, follow the band on Facebook, don’t forget to Like FlashWounds,  and now enjoy some more photos from the House of Blue show!
