Lefty Williams Announces Initial Dates Confirmed Within Summer Touring Plans
All In Release Events Planned for Atlanta on August 22 at Vinyl and in Athens, GA on 9/04 at Caledonia Lounge
Lefty Williams has announced initial confirmed appearances within a broad routing that will keep the artist on the road throughout 2014. Dates are planned in his home state of Georgia in addition to Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, and North Carolina. The initial itinerary is below, with more shows to be confirmed. On August 22, he will host an All In performance / release party at Vinyl in Atlanta (1374 West Peachtree Street NW). On September 4, he’ll bring the celebration to Athens, with an appearance at the Caledonia Lounge (256 West Clayton Street); Williams will be accompanied by Dylan Cornell (guitar), Scott Jegen (bass), and Preston Holcomb (drums).
Now you know the details, but there are some of you who may not yet be familiar with the name Lefty Williams. Let’s remedy that situation. Lefty has established a respected and enduring reputation as a great rock guitarist and songwriter through the age-old adage of “You build an audience one fan at a time.” Over the last decade, his now legion of supporters has grown exponentially simply on the strength of his talents as a performer and songwriter. His songs have real depth and power; they are more than just catchy pop numbers, they speak to the heart about life and the experiences and issues we all share in the passage of life. His playing is reminiscent of Jimmy Page, Dickey Betts and Eric Johnson, while at the same time frequently receiving comparison to the great lineage of Georgia-reared guitarists that include Robert Cray and Duane Allman.
With the release of All In, and a new relationship with Tree Leaf Music, his music will continue to reach an even wider audience who will be touched by the soulfulness of the songs and the technical prowess that accompanies it. You will not even realize that the music you are enjoying is courtesy of an artist with only one hand. As Chris Parker of the Charleston City Paper said, “Lefty Williams is a Southern rock guitar god who happens to have only one hand… Rootsy licks transform into loose and jazzy Traffic-style jams before touches of soulful Big Easy swing seep in and the whole thing takes a funky, chicken-fried turn.”
Williams released his first CD, Big Plans, in 2006. It was produced by John Keane (REM, Widespread Panic), who said, “Lefty’s sound is a compelling combination of honest, heartfelt lyrics and masterful rhythm and blues muscle.” His next offering, Snake Oil, issued in 2008, was nominated for Album of the Year by the Homegrown Music Network. His latest album, All In, marks the start of a new alliance with Tree Leaf Music. The sessions were produced and mixed by Ashley Dennis, who also represents Williams as management. Dennis’ long-tenured career in sound and recording features collaborations with Cake, Drivin’ and Cryin’, and others, and his experience ~ plus familiarity with Williams’ style ~ is evident is the final product that is All In.
