Mongrel ~ Experts in Hard Rock and the Lost Art of…Ass Identification???

It’s no secret that Boston-based Mongrel KICKS ass (read about some of their most recent successes here), but now we have proof that they KNOW ass, too.  Allow me to explain. Flashwounds ran an online contest to see who could identify the rocker derrieres shown below (with the first and only hint being that no, they didn’t belong to Bowie and Jagger getting ready to remake their “Dancin’ in the Streets” video).

We didn’t think it would be that hard to figure out, but none of the guesses sent in were even close…until Mongrel (and it shall remain a secret as to which member did the actual identifying) hit the nail on the head:  the beautiful backsides belong to Butcher Babies Heidi and Carla (we couldn’t resist snapping the pic last week at The Palladium as the ladies were being mobbed after their headliner-worthy set opening for Zakk Wylde/BLS on the Revolver Golden Gods Tour that also included Devil You Know and Down (who all turned in great performances, but just couldn’t compete in the hot ass department…sorry, guys!)

The deal for the winner was a shout out on Flashwounds.com for their band, music/tattoo/horror-related business, or basically anything they wanted…So we’re happy to present, well, what Mongrel (Did you catch them last night on 100.7 WZLX when the station played “Oxygen” and put in a great word for the new CD and the band’s upcoming show with Mindset Xband?) wanted (and it’s kind of cool that we get to help promote a band that’s one of our favorites…the possibilities of what we might have had to promote if there had been a different winner are…scary!) ~ that we share some really great news with you all…so here it is!!

The band’s new album Evolution will be available as an iTunes exclusive on May 20th and at their upcoming shows and will get its full release on June 3, when it will be available online through all major download and streaming services and in physical format at select stores.…but you can get a preview of Evolution now at unablerecords.com/mongrel.

And these awesome looking posters will tell you all you need to know about two very important shows they have coming up:

Mongrel Middle East

(Mongrel kind of consider Middle East a second home in MA, they’ve played there more times than we can keep track of (and always to a house packed with fans), it’s where Jessica Sierra Hogan did her 1st show with the band [in hindsight, one of the most important nights in Mongrel history], where the band filmed parts of the “C & ½” video, and to this day, what Jessica refers to as “…by far my favorite place in Boston to play!”)

Mongrel Free Show

And this is just me adding in my two cents, as usual, but Mongrel is also on the new compilation from Rise Above the Anchor, which you can check out here, and is getting a ton of interest from a bunch of radio stations (or, in the case of Official FN Radio, practically a DEMAND [kidding, Bob…awesome that you want the new music!] for Evolution so that they can get it into rotation ASAP.  Finally, mark your calendars for these additional upcoming Mongrel summer shows, too:

June 7 ~ New York, NY ~ RBar – 8:00 pm

June 21 ~ Haverhill, MA  ~ Limelight Lounge – 8:00pm

June 28 ~ Providence, RI  ~ Simon’s 677 – 4:00 pm

July 26 ~ Salisbury, MA  ~ Uncle Eddie’s Oceanside Tavern – 6:00 pm

…and make sure you support one of the best hard rock bands out there today (they may be Boston-based, but pretty soon they’re going to be taking over the entire US, mark our words!) by getting a copy (or ten) of Evolution, heading out to their live shows, requesting them on the radio, showing them some FB love (and of course congratulating them on their biggest success so far, correctly identifying the Butcher Babies’ asses…if that’s not talent, I don’t know what is!), and keeping up with everything they’re doing.
