Iconic Singer Continues to Relish His Return to Live Performance

Inducted Friend Cat Stevens into Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame; Induction Ceremony to Air May 31 on HBO

The legendary and incomparable Art Garfunkel made his highly anticipated comeback to the stage in 2014 with a select number of live performances from January through March 1.  The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member and diamond-selling artist had taken time off to recover from a vocal ailment, but was able to declare, “The voice is back. I’m in flight again. I believe I have grown through adversity.  A new creation has emerged that is truly exciting me ~ my stage show.”

Now, with those shows under his belt and back in love with being on stage, Garfunkel is adding more dates to an already busy summer. He is touring the U.S. throughout the next few months and has booked a week-long string of September dates in the U.K. Garfunkel recently told the New Haven Register before a few Connecticut shows that “I feel like 26. I worked to get the voice back…I have been singing since I was five; it’s my best friend. I’m married to singing and its problems.”

Garfunkel will bring his two-man show (with guitarist Tab Laven) to venues across the country (see full itinerary below) beginning May 17. He will tour the East Coast from May into July, and will do a five-show trek through England September 5-11. His live set will include his solo hits, Simon and Garfunkel songs, cuts from his favorite songwriters ~ Jimmy Webb, Randy Newman, A.C. Jobim ~ parts of his new book, and Q&A sessions.

The Cleveland Plain-Dealer had praised the show’s format early on, saying, “…Garfunkel enthralled the capacity crowd with songs, stories and even a question-and-answer period. Some of the tales and questions focused on the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s partner, Paul Simon.  Some were about his young son, Beau. Some were about his party days in California. Some were about his distaste for texting and technology, and all elicited rapt, hear-a-pin-drop attention…It’s a joy to hear and share the contentment in his songs and stories.” (12/14/13)

Garfunkel recalled that, “I used to go to work to his tapes. We were in Vancouver in ’72, Jack Nicholson and I, shooting Carnal Knowledge and running lines in the back of the car with ‘Lady D’Arbanville’ playing. It made us feel right. All the girls I took out were Cat Stevens fans; he was a sexy guy ~ sensitivity with a bass voice. (I shoulda thought of that).”

Some Enchanted EveningBlessed with what the New York Times described as a “…beautiful countertenor…,” Art Garfunkel has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel.  He has also enjoyed a successful film career, published a book of poetry, and released 12 original solo albums, the most recent of which, from 2007, is Some Enchanted Evening.  Since then, he has been busy as a husband and father to his two sons, 23 year-old Arthur Junior and eight-year-old Beau Daniel.  He is also an avid walker who has walked across Japan, the US (celebrated in the 1997 concert DVD Across America) and Europe (now approaching Istambul). Read his thoughts on the walk here.

Art poignantly shared with the New Haven Register that, “The voice left me and now that it’s back, I am so grateful,” a sentiment echoed by his legion of devoted fans.  We are lucky to have the opportunity to see and hear him once again performing live on the following dates:
