Radio 92.9 Launches Search for Local Band to Open 21st Annual EarthFest Event

Radio 92.9 is launching a search for the best local band to open up the 21st annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest. Sponsored by Deep Eddy Vodka, this Battle of the Bands is now open and accepting submissions from local bands.  See full contest rules HERE.

The 21st annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest will return to DCR’s Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston on May 17, 2014.  Presented by Whole Foods Market, the family-friendly festival is the largest free radio station concert in the country, showcasing national and local music acts, environmentally friendly products and local non-profit environmental organizations.

events15402Bands residing in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island are eligible to participate.  Entries will be accepted at www.myradio929.com through April 14, 2014.  Each entry must include the name of the band, contact information and a link to a YouTube video of a performance or studio video.  Thirty-two entries will be selected based on musicality, creativity, production and relevance to the format of the station.

hardrockListeners will be able to vote for their favorite band from April 15-28, 2014.   The eight bands with the highest vote totals will be invited to participate in the two semi-final live performance rounds, scheduled for early May in Boston.  Two bands from each semi-final performance will be selected by a panel of judges to perform at the finals along with one “People’s Choice” artist, selected by station listeners.  The five finalists will perform on May 14, 2014 at the Hard Rock Café in Boston.

The winning band will have the opportunity to perform at 25-minute set as the opener of the 21st annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest on May 17, 2014.  Judges for this year’s Battle of the Band competition include Sylvia Cunha of Do617; Melissa Farrington, director of promotions for Live Nation; several members from Island Records’ band Gentleman Hall; Diandra Lamas, marketing team leader at Whole Foods Market Charles River Plaza; Michael Fang, northeast director of promotions, Q Prime; and Michael Marotta of Do617.

The Radio 92.9 EarthFest is produced in conjunction with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR.)The Department of Conservation and Recreation is steward of one of the largest state parks systems in the country. Its 450,000 acres is made up of forests, parks, greenways, historic sites and landscapes, seashores, lakes, ponds, reservoirs and watersheds.  The DCR’s Hatch Memorial Shell and surrounding Esplanade area is a renowned venue for free events and programs in the city of Boston.
