Heading to Coachella this year?  If you are, add to your must-see list these four acts, all of whom are making their festival debut.  There’s a lot of variety in this line-up, but that’s what Coachella is all about ~ bringing together established artists and new talent to offer its audience the best music experience possible.

“There are so many beautiful styles, I can’t understand the logic of listening to just one of them.”  ~ Gareth Emery

Adventure Club ~ Performing Sunday April 13 & Sunday April 20

MSO Adventure ClubOne of the hottest acts in electronic music right now, Adventure Club has been a tireless source of banging remixes, uplifting summertime anthems, infectious DJ mixes, and explosive live shows since the duo’s musical trip took off in 2010. The Canadian duo ~ Christian Srigley and Leighton James ~ rounded out the end of 2013 in a big way with the release of their debut EP Calling All Heroes on BMG. An elegantly crafted soundscape featuring four songs with transforming bass and whirling synths, the EP includes “Gold” featuring Yuna, “Wonder,” which has the pair teaming up with Australian producer The Kite String Tangle, “Crash” and “Thunderclap.” The EP hit #1 on iTunes Dance Album chart in the U.S. and Canada plus it ranked over 10 HypeM #1 hits. Big Gigantic ~ Performing Sunday, April 13 and Sunday, April 20

MSO Big GiganticColorado-based Big Gigantic come to Coachella in support of their fifth album, The Night Is Young. The live act consisting of saxophonist/producer Dominic Lalli and drummer Jeremy Salken ~ who interpret traditional DJ-based music with live instruments ~ have developed a rabid fanbase since forming in 2008 with their blend of mind-bending beats, thunderous bass and frenetic melodies. The Night Is Young consists of eight songs, including the title track which finds Big Gigantic collaborating with their good friends Cherub on what they describe as “…a super funky dance track.”  Also included is the critically acclaimed instrumental “Touch The Sky” along with the crushing dubstep song “Let’s Go!,” already a crowd favorite during their live shows. From start to finish, the album showcases the group’s signature mix of dance, hip-hop, dubstep and funk beats against hard-hitting drums and smooth sax that is sure to get the party going. Always bringing amazing energy, they have already smashed the festival circuit with performances at a multitude of major events including Lollapalooza, Ultra Music Festival, Hangout, Austin City Limits, Governors Ball, Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, Outside Lands, several Mad Decent Block parties and more…and now they’re ready to win over the Coachella crowd!

Carbon Airways ~ Performing Saturday, April 12 & Saturday, April 19

MSO Carbon Airways

Engusand Eleonore Fernese ~ the French brother and sister duo (ages 17 & 18) that make up the rock infused electro group Carbon Airways ~ released their critically acclaimed Black Sun EP (Cherrytree Records) in the US on March 25.  The EP, which was available in their native country beforehand, includes the title track ~ with remixes by the likes of Kill Paris, Paris Blohm and Betablock3r ~ for an assortment of dance floor styles, and features three other original tracks: “DNA Providence,” “Conquest” and “Grace and Virtue.” The video for “Black Sun” ~ directed by Tony Truand (Skrillex, Foreign Beggars) ~ gives the American audience their first visual of the band with Eleonore and Engus pummeling out their vocals in English while jamming on synths and machines.  In the beginning, there was just a brother and a sister ~ Engus and Eleonore Fernese. He is a violinist, she a cellist. There was one computer in the household and Engus tinkered with sounds while his sister drafted her first lyrics. It could have stopped there, but together they decided to create a group based on their common passion for driving industrial acts like Ministry and The Prodigy ~ collaborating at an age when siblings generally fuss and fight instead.  They call themselves Carbon Airways based on carbon as an original component behind everything that is alive on the planet and airways referring to the feeling of escape they get from their musical experimentation.  Their early concerts received great support all over France, and they played their first live show at Off de Bourges, the big stage of Les Transmusicales de Rennes at Hall 9, to both their and the audience’s total excitement. Not escaping drama, though, the two had to deal with the media focusing on their youth and a police commissioner trying to forbid them to perform.  They went on to perform at Ultra Music Festival in Miami where Cherrytree spotted them and Polydor signed them.  They’ve also performed at HARD Summer and all the biggest European Festivals. Their Coachella performances will mark their third time in the StatesStay tuned, details on their next EP, You Walk Away, will be made public very soon!

Gareth Emery ~ Performing Friday, April 11 and Friday, April 18

MSO Gareth EmeryBritish electronic music producer Gareth Emery’s Coachella debut is in support of his second studio album, Drive. It contains the beautiful and ethereal “U” featuring Bo Bruce and the full-bodied Beatport Top 10 club banger “Lights and Thunder” with fellow Coachella performer Krewella.  The inspiring story behind Drive ~ which hit #1 on iTunes’ Dance Chart in both the U.S. and Canada, and #27 on the overall chart upon its release April 1 ~ is derived from Emery’s 3000-mile adventure across the Oklahoma/ Texas border on Old Route 66. Exemplified by his deep and purposeful musicality, adept songwriting skills and ability to convey emotion through sound, Emery has created a unique blend of house, trance and electro that he explores fully on Drive. As Gareth puts it, “I’ve been a fervent anti-genre campaigner, pretty much since the beginning. My aim is to express myself through good music no matter what genre you put it in.” Other highlights on the 12-song album include the return of “Concrete Angel” (one of Gareth’s biggest tracks from 2012), vocalist Christina Novelli on “Dynamite,” and “Soldier,” “Eye Of the Storm” and “Beautiful Rage,” all of which Gareth co-wrote with his sister Roxanne Emery.
