Indian Ranch Announces Two Stellar Additions to Its Summer 2014 Line-Up

Indian Ranch LOGO

Even though Flashwounds has “gone national” (or, come to think of it, international), Central MA will always have a special place in our hearts because it’s where most of us first met and got our start ~ and Indian Ranch is one of the local venues we’ll always keep tabs on and visit whenever we can because there’s simply no place like it for catching a concert on a summer day.  The Ranch books great acts (some of whom have become annual staples of the summer line-up), the amphitheatre allows for an optimal view of the stage no matter where you’re sitting, there is perfect concert-going food and drink available all day, you’re about 10 yards from the beach while you’re watching the show, and at every event we’ve attended there over the years, there’s always a friendly, we’re-all-here-to-have-a-good time vibe that both the audience and performers feed off of, resulting in an intimate, high-energy feel to all the concerts.

Indian Ranch already had an exceptional line-up (see details at the bottom of this article on some of the performers already confirmed and on where to find out more information and order tickets) in place for this summer, and today they announced two additions that will no doubt be season favorites.

Barenaked Ladies, whose fusion of hooks and yuks has resulted in more than 14 million albums sold, return to Indian Ranch on Sunday, July 20 at 2 PM. The Canadian-born band is best known for their hit singles “One Week,” “The Old Apartment,” and the theme song for the sitcom The Big Bang Theory. Their light-hearted and humorous banter between songs, and improvised raps/songs are staples at virtually every concert.

Just last year at this time, on the occasion of the band’s 25th anniversary, BNL ~ Ed Robertson (guitar/vocals), Jim Creeggan (bass/vocals), Kevin Hearn (keyboard/guitar/vocals) and Tyler Stewart (drums/vocals) ~released  Grinning Streak, the  band’s twelfth album. Grinning Streak unfolds with their signature blend of immediacy, tunefulness and witty sophistication that made such BNL hits as “Pinch Me,” “Brian Wilson,” “If I Had $1,000,000,” and the chart-topping “One Week” modern-day classics.

BLUESFor more than half a century, Riley B. King – better known as B.B. King – has defined the blues for a worldwide audience. Indian Ranch presents a very special afternoon of Blues at the Beach featuring B.B. King with Robert Randolph and The Family Band and Shemekia Copeland on Sunday, July 13 at 2 PM.

Since he started recording in the 1940s, he has released over fifty albums, many of them classic, and featuring hits like “The Thrill Is Gone,” “Rock Me Baby,” “Baby I Love You” and “Lucille.” “The King of Blues” has been bestowed fifteen Grammy Awards by his peers, including the Grammy “Lifetime Achievement Award” and has been inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame.

Joining King for Blues at the Beach will be virtuoso pedal steel guitarist Robert Randolph and his long time accompanists, the Family Band.  Robert Randolph and the Family Band continue to tour in support of their 2013 release Lickety Split, an album that showcases the unique chemistry of the Family Band—comprised of the guitarist’s actual family members.

Also on bill is two-time GRAMMY® nominee Shemekia Copeland, already a force to be reckoned with in the blues. Daughter of the late Texas blues guitar legend Johnny Clyde Copeland, Shemekia Copeland’s passion for singing, matched with her huge, blast-furnace voice, gives her music a timeless power and a heart-pounding urgency. Her music comes from deep within her soul and from the streets where she grew up, surrounded by the everyday sounds of the city.
