Years Since the Storm’s Hopeless Shelter out 3/18/14

YEARS 1

By Seth M

Hopeless Shelter gets released tomorrow (3/18/14) and if you’re a fan of bands that fall under the category of Nu Metal, then something tells me you might be interested in giving this one a listen. It’s been only five years since the group ~ Donnie Andrich, Kyle Wesolowski, Eric Snapper, Colin McEachern, and Troy Wilson ~came together, and already they’ve earned the reputation for having a dominating stage presence and a “nothing and no-one is going to get in our way” mentality.

Truth be told, I’m not a huge fan of all the music that is considered of the “Nu” genre, but it’s obvious that Years (whom some of you who make the annual trek to Worcester, MA’s New England Metal and Hardcore Fest might remember from last year’s line-up ~ the band is originally from Holyoke, MA) are influenced by some of the best. With 11 tracks and a running time of 38:23, there are undeniable hints of bands like Mudvayne, Korn and Slipknot. Additionally, in songs like “On My Own” and “Frigid,” there are some background harmonies reminiscent of old school Linkin Park. If any of these bands were and still are on your playlist of favorites, Years Since the Storm are worth checking out.  Even some old school thrash metal fans might appreciate a song like “Parasite,” which struck me as one of the album’s highlights.

Years A

Led by Donnie Andrich’s commanding vocals, “Parasite,” coupled with “Mindfuck,” (what a great title ~ and you can check out the official Artery Recordings video for the song HERE) were the two tracks that stood out for me as best/most memorable, but check the whole album out for yourself right now at Revolver, which is exclusively previewing Hopeless Shelter in its entirety HERE.
