The Unsemble (Duane Denison, Alexander Hacke and Brian Kotzur) premiere the video for “Act 3″ from their self-titled, debut album, which was released today via Ipecac Recordings. “‘Act 3′ finds Kotzur and Hacke’s rhythm section towing a snaking, Surfer Rosa-era Pixies line, before Kotzur cuts through with a rock solid break, all underpinning Denison’s spiky, two-chord riff,” said The Quietus, who unveiled the clip this morning. “We’ve got a first look at the video – how you’d imagine Black Hawk Down would look if it was set in the American boondocks in 1910.” The Onion’s AV Club, who previously premiered the track, commented, “The collaboration came together during the summer of 2012, with Denison on guitar, Hacke on bass, and all three members on keyboards and electronics. The mission: a vector for improv and composition that ropes in the rock contortionism of The Lizard as well as the itchy industrialization of Neubauten. What came out the other end is a self-titled album full of twistedly cinematic, propulsively arty, subliminally tuneful instrumentals.” The Unsemble, a 15-song collection recorded in Denison’s adopted hometown of Nashville, meets the legendary Jesus Lizard guitar player’s hopes of a more organic feel with the band effortlessly volleying between careful compositions and improvisation. The result is an album that is experimental, clever and inclusive of numerous subgenres and cultures.
