Get Rocked (Like A Hurricane) With Scorpions’ New MTV Unplugged Release

Legendary international hard rockers Scorpions have just released MTV Unplugged, an exciting audiovisual document of their September 2013 sets at the Lycabettus Theater in Athens, Greece. This set, available as a CD/DVD as well as a Blu-Ray DVD, features new acoustic versions of their best-loved classic hits, as well as five brand new songs. The album is presently streaming as part of MSN Music’s Listening Booth series and can also be heard on last.fm as part of their “last.fm originals” series.
Allmusic.com’s review of MTV Unplugged states, “…despite the larger venue, the set still feels fairly personal, stripping away the bombast of the plugged-in versions to reveal the emotions at the core of the band’s more upbeat numbers like ‘Rock You Like a Hurricane’ while adding a new level of simplicity to power ballads like ‘Send Me an Angel.’ With two discs of acoustic goodness, Scorpions fans are definitely going to want to check this out.”
The show, which was filmed live at the immaculate Lycabettus Theatre in Athens, Greece in September of 2013 was a landmark on many fronts for the band and fans alike, marking the first performance of its kind in band history as well as the first open-air taping in the history of MTV Unplugged.
In other news, Scorpions are still in the midst of their epic Farewell World Tour; the tour has been going on for more than three years now. To the delight of their fans there is no end in sight, as to date the band has only played 23 out of the 38 countries planned on the itinerary.
Scorpions are Klaus Meine (vocals/guitar), Rudolf Schenker (guitars/vocals), Matthias Jabs (guitars), Pawel Maciwoda (bass) and James Kottak (drums); additional musical support on MTV Unplugged includes contributions from Swedish musicians and producers Mikael Nord Andersson (guitars, mandolin, lap steel, vocals) and Martin Hansen (guitars, harmonica, vocals). The duo is also responsible for the arrangements on MTV Unplugged.
