Mother Falcon Wraps Stellar Year and Plays Several Shows to Start off 2014

Mother Falcon

It’s been an incredible year for Mother Falcon. Not only has the band earned the distinction of being “the largest ensemble ever to squeeze behind Bob Boilen’s desk” during a taping of “Tiny Desk Concerts” at the NPR offices in Washington DC, but they spent most of the year on a highly successful national debut tour that took them from coast to coast, selling out shows from Chicago to San Francisco, Louisville to Portland in support of their latest album, You Knew.

Following a string of buzz-worthy SXSW shows that caught the attention of national programmers last March, the band signed with Red Ryder Entertainment and headed to New York City, where they did a month-long residency in June. They toured nationally all summer long, returning home in late August to play their largest headlining show to date in front of 750 at the Mohawk. Along the way Mother Falcon collaborated with a wide range of artists, including Amanda Palmer, Alejandro Escovedo, Jherek Boschoff, Ben Sollee and Tony Trishka, and have been well received by the press.

Mother Falcon’s final show of 2013 was a very special night, as they joined Grammy-winning composer Peter Stopschinski to perform his world premiere of Stravinsky’s “The Rite of Spring” at Central Presbyterian Church on December 28. The collaboration continued a relationship that began when Stopschinski taught composition to several Mother Falcon members in middle school; he has also composed music for The Red Armada Quartet, a teen ensemble of Mother Falcon members.  2014 promises to be full of equally moving, exceptional performances.
