Backstage News, Front Row Pics

Halestorm @ Terminal 5, NYC

halestorm16By Seth M

Well, these may be some of the strangest pictures I have taken in a long time, but what’s not strange or even surprising is how great Halestorm was when they marched onto the stage of New York City’s Terminal 5 last night with a kick ass set and some obscure cover songs as well.

halestorm24The evening kicked off with a short set from Stars in Stereo whom I managed to, once again, miss the beginning of but was able to catch the last few songs and they sounded damn good. After only a 20 minute set change, Redlight King took the stage and NYC was happy to welcome them for their 50 minute time slot. I hadn’t seen the band before but they were pretty solid and from the significant amount of the audience members knowing their material seem to have a good NY following.

Of course the band to see, hot off a European tour, were headliners Halestorm.  As someone who has seen this band many times and hung out with them from time to time, including last night, I can tell you that they are, without question, one of the hardest touring acts of the last few years. Although Lizzy was under the weather from the previously mentioned European leg she, Joe, Josh and Arejay still came out and kicked New York City and Terminal 5’s proverbial ass.

Halestorm doesn’t make it to NYC often but when they do, their fans turn out in droves and sing every word. They opened up the show with “Love Bites (So Do I)” and continued not only bringing out some favorites ~ “Freak Like Me” and “Dirty Work” ~ but also pulling out rarities like “Don’t Know How to Stop” which only fans who have the deluxe edition of the Strange Case of… album would know and be anxious to hear. If that weren’t enough, Halestorm is known for doing some great covers and last night was no exception when they played Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman,”,an encore of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky,” and a near perfect version of Judas Priest’s “Dissident Aggressor” ~ which was a definite surprise.

halestorm40Backstage after the show it was obvious that not only did New York fans leave satisfied but the band seemed humbled by the crowd’s reception, based on the explosive response when Lizzy said they had a couple more weeks before returning to the studio to record their next album.
