Monster Energy Drink Outbreak / HardDrive Live Tour @ The Paramount, Huntington NY

Although I missed Throw The Fight and stood waiting for media credentials while Stars in Stereo played, I can tell you that the Outbreak / Hardrive tour packed the house and that Stars in Stereo sounded great, even from the lobby…

I made it in time to see Black Veil Brides, whom I have seen before, and the first thing I and many others wonder is…why remove the makeup. Sorry, BVB, I realize you have an amazing following and some high energy fans but even many of them can’t figure it out. Sure, some might think it’s a gimmick and cheesy but the makeup made BVB stand out amongst a sea of mediocre bands. That’s not to say BVB doesn’t put on a mega watt show ~ and they definitely have a huge fan base behind them ~ but this was a differentiator that worked.

Bullet11BVB had the crowd fired up from the start, opening with “Shadows Die” and going right into “I Am Bulletproof.” Their cover of The Misfits’ “Fiend Club” may have been lost on most of their fans, sadly, since they didn’t seem to know the song and probably don’t even know who The Misfits are. BVB bounced all over the Paramount stage hitting every inch and “Fallen Angels” had the entire audience singing along; “In The End” closed out their short yet extremely well-received set.

Bullet23With the crowd chanting “Bullet, Bullet, Bullet,” headliners Bullet For My Valentine arrived, wasting no times kicking off their set with “Breaking Point” from their latest release, Temper Temper. The band had a loud, crisp sound and it was easy to hear the scorching guitars of vocalist Matt Tuck and guitarist Michael Paget. Quickly following up with “Your Betrayal” and “Waking the Demon,” Bullet was unstoppable, ripping through a 13 song set that had a great mix of old and new. The time seemed to fly as they hit the last notes of “Scream Aim Fire” to end their set. They barely made it off stage before the chant of “We Want Bullet!” began.

Returning to the stage almost as quickly as they left, they began to play “Alone,” followed by Tuck exclaiming “Hands down, the best fucking crowd so far,” which led to the last chant of the evening… “Tears Don’t Fall, Tears Don’t Fall,” and as the band played the final song of the set the crowd sang every word in unison.
