Veteran alternative metal act Ra have announced an October 15, 2013 release date for Critical Mass, the band’s fourth studio album and first since 2008. The highly-anticipated Critical Mass also marks the return of the band’s original lineup ~ guitarist/vocalist Sahaj Ticotin, bassist P.J. Farley, guitarist Ben Carroll, and drummer Skoota Warner.

“I believe this record to be the most complete album we’ve ever made, but also the heaviest,” said Ticotin. “There is a conscious effort here to be more respectful of hard rock/metal roots and less on being too touchy feely. I really wanted this record to feel intense, even on the more light hearted songs. For once I don’t feel as if I compromised on any aspect of the writing for this record.”

Ra is known for having a passionate, supportive fan base, and Critical Mass was funded by a Kickstarter.com campaign that helped raise over $32,000 to record and press the album.

“The Kickstarter was a surprise on many levels,” shared Ticotin. “Not only in the amount of money we raised, but mainly in the intensity of the demand. People were genuinely aggressive about making sure we made another record. As cliché as it sounds, without that level of energy, I don’t know how well this record would have come out. Their passion directly inspired the songs on this record from beginning to end. It is truly amazing.”

RA1Considered by many to be the most underrated hard rock band still releasing music today, Ra’s record sales have topped 400,000 in the U.S., with the band’s three previous studio albums all debuting in the Billboard Top 200. The group has toured with the likes of Shinedown, Seether, Stone Sour, Saliva, Halestorm and more while producing six Top 40 singles on the Billboard Rock chart. Ra’s last radio single, 2009’s “Supernova,” received significant airplay and was the most played song on Sirius XM Octane for 14 weeks.

  2. P.j. Farley is not the original bassist for Ra. He joined for the second album Duality.
