Massachusetts-based aggressive rock band Mongrel are looking for supporters of their “evolution” over the next 30 days. The female fronted band is gearing up to hit the studio to record a new 5 song EP entitled Evolution, turning to  Red 13 Media in Framingham, MA this summer for the basic tracking. Jim Foster (Sully Erna/Godsmack, Shinedown, POD, Nullset, Bam Margera), who produced the band’s last 3 releases, will once again be behind the board.  Mongrel’s goal, with the backing of friends, fans, and supporters, is to have the EP mixed by Dave Fortman (a member of Ugly Kid Joe), whose impressive track record (no pun intended!) includes work with Slipknot, Mudvayne, Snot, Soil, Otep, Godsmack, and Evanescence. “Dave’s work with these bands and ability to get a big sounding, aggressive mix while maintaining the balance enough to keep it playable seems perfect for the songs we’ve been working on,” states band founder/guitarist Adam Savage. “The new  material really allows Jess [Sierra] to shine vocally, and lets our newer members ~ Mike Hogan on drums and Michael Ariza on bass ~ really show their chops as well.  It really is taking what we do to the next level, the next ‘evolution’ of the band, as it were. Hence the name of the new EP.”

Being an indie band without major label support and funding, Mongrel has set up a Kickstarter campaign and is looking to raise at least $3,000 to cover mixing costs. Any extra money raised will go towards production/packaging and marketing for the new release. A tentative mid-winter release plan has been set for Evolution, so stay tuned for more specific details to be announced late summer/early fall. Reward levels start out as low as $2 so that everyone can participate.  Higher level contributions will get rewards ranging from limited edition DVDs, exclusive T-shirts, the “Cookie Monster” costume from the band’s recent “C & a 1/2″ video, a rare Gibson Explorer guitar, and even a custom “Mongrel” Artist Series Guitar.

In the coming months, in addition to recording the new EP,  Mongrel will be playing with Godsmack (8/10, Gilford, NH), headlining a show at The Palladium  in Worcester, MA on August 16th, and returning to Boston, MA on August 17th for a show at the Hard Rock Cafe.
