The 16-song collection features the classic latter-era lineup of the Jerry Garcia Band ~ Jerry Garcia (vocals, guitar), John Kahn (bass), Melvin Seals (organ), Jaclyn LaBranch (vocals), Gloria Jones (vocals) and David Kemper (drums) ~ plus special guest Béla Fleck. Recorded during an especially fruitful period for the band ~ the era that gave us the band’s first-ever live albums, Jerry Garcia Band and How Sweet It Is ~ the Greek Theatre show was one of 19 Bay Area gigs the band played in 1990. Stretching out in the summer sun, they delivered a lilting “Stop That Train” and a bouncy “My Sisters and Brothers.”

Acclaimed banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck joined the band at the top of their second set, kicking things off with a fiery rendition of “Midnight Moonlight” and an otherworldly take on the Jimmy Cliff classic “The Harder They Come.” A mesmerizing rendition of “Tangled Up in Blue,” one of three Bob Dylan songs featured during the concert, closed out the show, reminding us of Dylan’s observation that nobody had a touch with his songs quite like Garcia.

Jerry Garcia (1942-1995) created an unparalleled legacy across the American landscape, most notably in his role as a founding member, singer, songwriter and lead guitarist of the Grateful Dead. In his work with the Jerry Garcia Band and other projects, he set out to master the Great American Songbook. Garcia continues to inspire future generations through the body of work he has left behind and his creative spirit.

He is being celebrated this summer in the Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration Featuring Warren Haynes. This groundbreaking orchestral adventure ~ curated by the Garcia family ~ will feature his storied original compositions and classic interpretations of timeless standards that were hallmarks of Garcia and the Grateful Dead’s shows. GRAMMY®-winning vocalist/guitarist Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule) will perform with some of the country’s most respected symphonies and a band assembled especially for the tour. Please see the full itinerary below.
