The Sun Comes Out Tonight actually comes out today, June 4, 2013, and if you’re a Filter fan you will definitely want to add this album to your Filter collection.

The Sun Comes Out Tonight kicks off with “We Hate It When You Get What You Want:” industrial synthesizer sound, good rhythm, great guitars and slightly reminiscent of old Linkin Park as well as old Filter. This sound, although not consistent through the entire album, carries through to the second track, “What Do You Say,” as well as into some of the other 12 tracks.

Varying  in style and sound enough so that old school Filter fans will appreciate it right alongside the band’s newer fan base, this album isn’t all upbeat, straight forward rock. You get to hear the softer side of Filter with the last two tracks on the album: “It’s My Time,” a piano ballad that showcases the lighter side of Richard Patrick’s scratchy vocals and “It’s Just You,” certainly not a hard hitting, heavy song like “It’s Got To Be Right Now” but still well written. Of course after rocking out to “This Finger’s For You” and “Take That Knife Out of My Back,” which is the heaviest/darkest song of the 12 tracks, maybe you will need something a little lighter. Regardless, across the board, the album has great production value, a vital element too often lacking in what could otherwise be great music.

Overall, I enjoyed The Sun Comes Out Tonight, and my  favorite song was probably “Self Inflicted.” Don’t miss Filter when they come to your city on the Summerland Tour with Everclear, Live, and Sponge or on any of their other summer tour dates which you can check out here ~ and of course grab The Sun Comes Out Tonight on Wind-up Records out today, June 4th.
