The Vim Dicta ~ Cori Elliott, 21, on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Matt Tunney, 20, on lead guitar and backing vocals, and David Halicky, 26, on drums and percussion ~ formed in 2011, birthed from LA’s re-energized underground music scene. They are three equal parts: positive virtuosic prog rock (think “The Dead Weather Zeppelin”), a “psycho groovy” rhythm section (a la Nick Mason / Noel Redding on a Latin jazz acid trip), and a sexy siren of a soulful blues vocalist who combines the strutting punk attitude of Alison Mosshart with the timeless emotion of Billie Holiday.
Already veterans of the road, The Vim Dicta have played over 100 live shows at a diverse collection of venues in Southern SoCal, taking the stage everywhere from small clubs to large, well-known halls. They’ve put in time at music festivals including SXSW, the Sunset Strip Music Festival, and BuzzBand LA’s recent Chinese Lunar New Year Festival. They’ve received endorsements from Gibson, Epiphone, TC-Helicon and Soul Tone Cymbals, and were voted #2 in The Deli Magazine’s list of “Best New LA Bands of 2012.” They released a critically acclaimed four song EP (Lucky Strike) in 2012 and have 16 additional tracks ready to go. Most recently, they recorded their new single, “Point Blank,” with the production trifecta of Shane Smith (Los Lobos, Feist), Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Fiona Apple) and Shelly Yakus (John Lennon, Tom Petty). “Point Blank” is scheduled for release at the end of May.
So, what’s next? A lot more, so stay tuned ~ because this is just the beginning…
