Running a bit late to The Paramount in Huntington, NY, I unfortunately missed show openers Hell or High Water but did make it in time to catch In This Moment’s frontwoman Maria Brinks ~ dressed in a white corset ~ as she stood on a platform of skulls engulfed in fog.

In This Moment  features Chris Howorth (lead guitar), Randy Weitzel (guitar), Travis Johnson (bass) and Tom Hane (drums) and is fronted by one of the sexiest women in rock, the aforementioned Maria Brinks (left). The band is a straightforward metal band and was playing on what looked like something out of a movie set from Conan, Mad Max, or the like. Even if you came just to see the headliner, Stone Sour, you would be thoroughly entertained musically through the 8 song set that included “Rise with Me,” Beast Within,” “Blood,” and “Whore,” and visually through the various costume changes of the impressive Miss Brinks.

On the heels of their April 9th House of Gold & Bones – Part 2 release, Stone Sour hit the stage of The Paramount around 10:30pm to a totally amped up crowd that was ready to rock. Corey Taylor had the fans in the palm of his hand as they sang along from the first to last note of the set.

I had never been a huge Slipknot fan but from the first time I heard Stone Sour I liked them and from the first time I saw them I knew they rocked live ~and this show was no different. The band was charged up as they ripped through an awesome 15 song set list:

Corey 2

Gone Sovereign
Absolute Zero
Mission Statement
Hell & Consequences
Made of Scars
A Rumor of Skin
Reborn
Do Me a Favor
RU486
Say You’ll Haunt Me
Bother
Through Glass
Hesitate
Get Inside
30/30-150

As the band went from old songs to new and back again, Corey’s vocals sounded great, the band was spot on and lights & sound at The Paramount were fantastic. Although the band was loud (not in an overbearing way), there were times the crowd was even louder, so sometimes it was a struggle to hear the Taylor ~ and at one point he proclaimed, “This is one of the best crowds I’ve ever played in front of.”  IMG_5136

There was no lowlight of this show ~ it rocked from the start ~ but my personal highlight was the brief intro of Alice in Chains’ “Nutshell” into “Bother” followed by “Through Glass.”

Although the Road to the Golden Gods tours is winding down, Stone Sour will remain on the road in the US hitting major festivals through May before heading to Europe ~ and if you don’t get a chance to catch them now my guess is they will be back on tour in the US come fall… Keep an eye on stonesour.com for updates and don’t miss these guys next time they come around.
