Free Press Houston and Pegstar.net Presents are pleased to announce another top-notch lineup for Free Press Summer Festival 2013. FPSF 2013 represents a significant benchmark for the nation’s most affordable music and arts festival as it welcomes its fifth year of production. FPSF 2012 was the perfect foray into our fifth year what with the powerhouse lineup of all-star musicians, tasty local eats, handcrafted cocktails, and near sellout attendance. Our next-level efforts did not go unnoticed. FPSF 2012 garnered all sorts of positive press from publications including SPIN, Texas Monthly, The New York Times, Under the Radar, Gorilla vs. Bear, Austinist, and local media including The Chronicle, Houston Press, CultureMap, and Houston Arts + Culture.

This year’s lineup includes a synthesis of iconic musical veterans and burgeoning talent that represents a musical palate carefully crafted to please both casual and ardent fans. The 2013 headliners include: reunited electropop innovators The Postal Service, punk rock patriarchs Iggy Pop and The Stooges, EDM extraordinaire BASSNECTAR, three-time Grammy-nominated Alabama Shakes, Passion Pit, TV on the Radio, Gypsy-punk heroes Gogol Bordello, singer-songwriter Cat Power, Icelandic folk quartet Of Monsters and Men, punk mavens Social Distortion, British indie rockers Arctic Monkeys, rhythm and blues icon Mavis Staples, legendary Houston rap trio The Geto Boys, and many more. Be sure to peep the full lineup below, and check back often for additional announcements in the coming weeks. We might just have a surprise or two to share.

For our fifth year, FPSF is significantly expanding production efforts with the addition of a third main stage, a refreshing and innovative approach to food ~ one that will represent the best local eats this city has to offer ~ and another exciting collaboration with Anvil’s Bobby Heugel and his team of fine cocktail-making bandits. This year’s festival will also build upon its already growing arts presence with the inclusion of large-scale, interactive artwork that is designed to bring festival goers closer together through fun, hands-on art projects. FPSF will be awarding honorariums to artists who execute large-scale installations, so if you’ve got something percolating in your brain, contact art(at)fpsf.com to pitch ideas for consideration.

As always, FPSF continues to exist as the premiere festival with the biggest bang for your buck. It has been and continues to be the most affordable festival of its kind in the country. We bring music fans a ton of fantastic music, great food, and beautiful things at a sticker price most fans can afford. We keep things reasonable so patrons can indulge in other unique Houston finds worth exploring.

We’d like to thank, once again, the musicians, the attendees, FPSF staff, the City of Houston, sponsors, and volunteers for being behind us year after year as we work hard to make this event possible.
