Get to Know Avan Lava ~ Now, NYC…Next, the Universe!

By Jane Croft

AvanAvan Lava is rising up from the intoxicating, gritty, inspirational streets of New York City to being us their incredibly hot super pop sounds.  New York Magazine’s The Cut  is calling them “Fashion’s Music Act of the Moment,” which only begins to tell the story of much potential this group has ~ and now Avan Lava is set to perform at this year’s SXSW.

Blending dance beats, lush synths, R&B vocals, and pop choreography, they create a passionate, high energy live show that demands full audience surrender.  Participation in the dancing is not optional.  Need proof of their pitch-perfect passion?  Check out the gorgeous music video for their song “Sisters,” which premiered on MTVu and received over 115,000 views.  Avan Lava knows how to tell a passionate story with their music; at no point does emotion fall flat, at no point do we as listeners miss out on this palpable lust for life.

Avan Lava is made up of singer TC and producers/musicians Le Chev and Ian Pai. Their live performances are spectacular thanks in part to the help of musicians, vocalists and technicians AvanlogoAndrew Schneider (The Wooster Group), Drew Citron, and Jo Lampert. The entire group has worked as producers, composers and mixers for recorded works and live performances with bands including Cat Power, Cold Cave, Fischerspooner, CSS, Frankie Rose, SSION, Lemonade, Lia Ices and (how’s this for variety!) the prestigious The New York Philharmonic.  They’ve also created remixes for R.E.M., Passion Pit, and New Villager ~ to name just a few. They self-released their Flex Fantasy EP (mastered by Tom Coyne at Sterling Sound (Robyn, Beyonce, Jay-Z, D’Angelo) to critical acclaim ~the official video for their single “It’s Never Over” premiered as a feature on YouTube Music and the video for “Sisters,” shot on location in San Juan, Puerto Rico, became a Vimeo Staff Pick and has garnered over 105K views.

Now they’ve got us just where they want us ~ anxiously awaiting their SXSW performances and their full debut album!  ‘Til then, click HERE to check out some of their singles!
