Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors’ Release the Aptly Titled Good Light
By Jane Croft
Every so often an album comes along, filled with dignity and grace, that features songs built on dreams, inspiration, nostalgia and love. Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors’ Good Light, set to be released on February 26, is one of those albums.
This heartfelt collection of songs has already shot to a #1 Debut on the iTunes Singer Songwriter Chart and a #22 Debut on the iTunes Top-25 Albums Chart as of February 18, and the Good Light video (which premiered via VH1 & CMT last week) has racked up about 145K views in 5 days.
The acclaim is certainly well-deserved, and the story behind Good Light reads like a Nicholas Sparks novel and totally tugs on the heart strings. The album was recorded live at Memphis’ Ardent Studios and follows Drew’s 30th birthday and the birth of his first child, daughter Emmylou with wife/bandmate Ellie. While Ellie was pregnant, Drew wrote more than 40 songs for the record, mostly alone on his 1934 Gibson Archtop, eventually whittling the selections down to a final 12 tracks.
The Holcomb lovebirds, along with bandmembers Nathan Dugger and Rich Brinsfield, have a huge tour coming up, but they’re accustomed to packed shows schedules and performing with big names. Since 2005, Drew Holcomb has been performing with huge names like Susan Tedeschi, North Mississippi Allstars, and Marc Broussard.
If Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors happen to stop by your neck of the woods, grab your loved ones, an old picnic blanket and go soak up some Americana musical goodness.
