Meet HolySexyBastards

By Jane Roycroft

Holy SexyComing at us from Valencia, the economic hub of Venezuela where industry is high and the temps are hot and heavy, is a crazy cool garage rock band, HolySexyBastards (HSB).  Their self-titled debut release album, available now on ITunes and Amazon, not only rocks out loudly and proudly, but is responsible for fueling the fires of the current garage rock movement in their native country.

The trio is comprised of Andres Puche ~ who rules the guitar and vocals, Luiscar Henriquez ~ who wows us on bass, and Itza Loprieno ~ who punches us in the stomach with the intense power grit of her drum-playing.  These rockers get their inspiration from multiple musical genres, ranging from grunge bands to classic rock phenoms ~ The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Muse, Radiohead, Kashmir, Nirvana, Temple of the Dog, The Gories, and The White Stripes.

HSB produced the album themselves and recorded it as a live performance at Backstage Studios.  Always focused on the international market, the band has already been nominated for several prestigious music awards and is receiving great reviews and much fan love for their album all across the globe, even though every word of every song is English (Venezuela is primarily a Spanish-speaking country.).  HSB has been selected to play showcases at SXSW 2013 as well as Canadian Music Week ~ both taking place this March ~ and will be bringing their set-list-free garage swagger vibes to North America and Europe.

In the midst of all the awards and accolades, one fact about the band shines through ~ they’re just plain cool.  They’ve got a great sense of humor and fun ~ they’re your friends who are always up for a 3am drive to nowhere, just for the hell of it.  They have that unfakeable, magnetic “It.”

Their song “Perfect Ten” starts off the album with a level of energy that can only be describedHoly Sexy 2 as highly addictive.  It’s like Sour Patch Kids for the ears; the song is gritty and stings, but with drops of garage sweetness that really showcase the band’s talent.  The message of the song is straightforward ~ they want to go home with you.  And with their driving guitar, big bad bass and kick-butt drum skills, you’ll probably let them.

Another fav is their song “Calling .”  HSB is bad and beautiful.  They know it and aren’t afraid to wave it in our faces.  “Calling” keeps the adrenaline high and nasty, but in the midst of the grungy whirlwind, they spin some yummy garage cotton candy for just a few seconds as Puche croons out, “Love will come to you if you look hard enough.”

HolySexyBastards is coming for our ears.  Watch out for them as they rise to even greater levels of international acclaim.
