Marriages Come to Brighton Music Hall

By Jane Croft

MarriagesBrighton Music Hall is adding to the quiet mystique of these self-reflective New England winter months with the band Marriages, set to hit the stage on February 20.   Joining Marriages on their current tour is labelmate Bosnian Rainbows, who are also scheduled to grace the stage of Brighton Music Hall, as well as Boris, who will hop on the tour when it reaches California in April 2013.

Marriages consists of the musical duo Emma Ruth Rundle, who handles vocals and guitar, and Greg Burns, who reigns over bass and synthesizer.  Their names may sound familiar and with good reason ~ both have played with instrumental powerhouse Red Sparowes.  Multi-tasking music queen Rundle leads The Nocturnes as well.

With their debut full length album Kitsune, released in 2012 on Sargent House, Marriages has been wowing audiences with Rundle’s incredibly haunting voice and Burns’ raw creativity for a while.  They’re dramatic, experimental, and filled with endless passion and potential.  Take a taste of their song, “The Shadows of My Name” and fall under their spell.

Thunderous drums, ebbs and flow of synth and bass create a sound as glorious as a blanket of red velvet.  And the lyrics seduce us, urge us to discover the many levels that dwell beneath in the dark.
