New York melodic rock band Skaters have announced their first tour in support of their debut Warner Bros. Records single “I Wanna Dance (But I Don’t Know How)” b/w “Armed,” set for release on April 9th. Click here to listen and post “I Wanna Dance (But I Don’t Know How).”As the story goes, Michael Ian Cummings and Noah Rubin formed Skaters in 2012, and spent a year trading demos between Los Angeles and London with guitarist Joshua Hubbard. A few months later, the three met up in a Chinatown (NYC) loft to created their own art zine, Yonks, and record their debut EP, Schemers, which was given away for free on the band’s website and drew immediate critical praise:
“Skaters play dark garage rock featuring Michael Ian Cummings’s energetic front-and-center vocals.” ~The New Yorker
“Skaters are taking the NYC music scene by storm.” ~ Vice / Noisey
“Like the Beach Boys, who famously didn’t surf (Dennis Wilson excepted), Skaters don’t skate. The New York evoked in Skaters’ scuzzy garage rock is the pre-Giuliani version populated by pseudo-moronic skinny-legged punks in leather jackets and shades and mohicaned cabbies on a mission to wash the scum off the streets.” – The Guardian (UK daily)
“Skaters are about to explode.” ~ Blackbook
Most recently, Skaters were named “Best of NYC 2012″ in The Deli Magazine’s Magazine Writers Poll. Read all about it here.
Skaters’ debut full-length will be released by Warner Bros. Records this summer. In the meantime, the band will release their first 7-inch single on April 9th, which will feature tracks “I Wanna Dance (But I Don’t Know How)”and “Armed.” Check out the band when they perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas, this March and catch Skaters on April 12 in Boston, MA at the Brighton Music Hall
